In the heart of Culver City on Helms Street where the old bakery used to reside, is La Dijonaise Cafe et Boulangerie.  It has a high ceiling inside and is very airy, and it has a nice patio space in front of the entrance.  There are lunch and dinner items that come with fresh bread that they make there, but also cute small cakes and cookies.

The macarons that they make here are $1.95 each, and there were only three kinds, which were all in one little tray.  Most likely they were the last of the few batches they had left, so options were limited.  I have also noticed the striking similarity with the ones sold at the Hunger Market in West Hollywood, even though Hunger Market claimed theirs were from San Francisco.  The prices are the same, the sizes are the same, and the details are exactly the same.  You be the judge.

OVERALL:
  • 1½" in diameter
  • all are poofy with air pockets inside
  • hard shell- very crunchy

DETAILS:
VANILLA
Grainy ivory white outer shell is very crunchy and chewy.  Not too creamy filling.

CHOCOLATE
Chunky small bits of cocoa beans on top of a light brown outer chocolate shell.  Super chewy like a fudge brownie.  Sweet milk chocolate-like inside.

ESPRESSO
Exterior sprayed with bitter espresso.  Inside has a milky sweet mocha cream.  Nutty and creamy overall.

CONCLUSION:
The macarons are almost like cookies.  If you like a crunchy texture, this is for you.  I would personally like more delicate outer and creamy inside.
