The cozy boulangerie on the corner of Pico Boulevard and  Ridgeley Drive knows how to make real fresh french bread, pastries, and desserts.  Another thing about this place is the customer service- very personable, down to earth, and neighborly.  How often can you get that nowadays, especially in Los Angeles where time is money and you have to put on a fake business smile in order to get people to buy things.  At la Maison du Pain, you will still get that rapport, and also get amazing affordable bread.

As for their macarons- there were about half a dozen kinds of fresh macarons fully stocked on pans.  Each were $1..25, and luckily I got to try one for free.  It was well worth coming here, for the quality of the macarons, the cordiality, and the laid back location.

OVERALL:
  • 1 ½"-2" in diameter
  • Perfect outer shell
  • No air spaces in between and fluffy

DETAILS:
STRAWBERRY
Light bright pink outer shell; crunchy but soft.  Filling has strawberry compote with strawberry seeds.

LEMON
Mustard yellow exterior has a crunch.  It has a sweet lemony-tart  like filling.

CHOCOLATE
Mocha-brown outer with a nice slight crunch.  Inside is moist, filling is almost fudge and chewy like a brownie.

PISTACHIO

Pea green light crunchy shell.  There is creamy real pistachio inside.

MY FAVORITES:
Lemon and pistachio.

CONCLUSION:
For only $1.25 and for such delicious macarons, I can say these would be one of my favorite macarons.  It's a great contrast between the fun and casual macarons offered here and the serious and formal macarons from Paulette, but both are great in their own ways.
